When you begin reading each of the subjects, be sure to review the Table of Contents for that unit and see how it is organized. In the case of "France: A Revolution in Music," the four sections are Section I: France Before Classicism; Section II: Classicism and Enlightenment in France; Section III: Music of the French Revolution; and Section IV: The Romantic Era and Beyond. As you read, analyze what are the different characteristics of French music during these various time periods and what caused these differences. Use metaphorical images in your mind to help you process the information and remember it.
I will use this blog to talk with you about what I am learning this year about our theme (and I am learning a lot since most of the material is new to me, too!), and I hope you will use the blog to ask questions that either can't wait until class or are not answered in class. Also, you can comment on items in the reading that you find particularly unexpected, odd, or interesting.
We can also use it to post reminders of Aca Dec club activities and special events, such as BE SURE to reserve SATURDAY, OCTOBER 24, ON YOUR CALENDAR for the ACADEMIC DECATHLON FINE ARTS SEMINAR DAY at Delta College. Attendance is required for class points, so don't plan other activities that day. I am guessing that there will be some very dramatic music this year.
Hope you have a good school year in all your classes. Be sure to stay in touch with all your teachers and get tutoring if you need it in any classes you find to be more difficult. For example, if math or chemistry is a challenge, start right away to get extra help.
